Taking Control

Baby Boomers Taking Control

Funeral directors are reporting that there is a trend with Baby Boomers to preplan their funeral arrangements and, unlike previous generations, customise the arrangements to reflect their personality and lifestyle. Examples of this include having the coffin draped in their favourite footy team’s colours, the playing of their favourite songs and using a motorcycle instead of a conventional hearse.

Part of the preplanning process often includes making arrangements to pay for their funeral.  Frequently this means that an amount equivalent to the future cost of the funeral is paid into a funeral bond with the funeral director nominated to receive the proceeds of the funeral bond at the time of death.

Younger Boomers have the opportunity to utilise Sureplan Family Fund, a funeral insurance plan specifically designed for the Under 56s, to provide funds for funeral expenses.  They can select a benefit up to $15,000 and it can prove to be a very cost-effective alternative as premiums are guaranteed to never increase and are payable only until age 60.
